NEW DEFIBRILLATOR ON RED ISLAND On January 8 a defibrillator was installed on Red Island. This was a community project that was first initiated after the tragic death of Con Boyle at the Captains on September 6, 2025. Con was an experienced sea swimmer in the Skerries Frosties group. He had a heart condition and got into difficulty after a swim. Another Frostie, Darrell Kavanagh, tried to revive him whilst waiting for emergency services and someone else had to run for the nearest defibrillator which was all the way down at the Sailing Club. Sadly Con didn’t survive. The new defibrillator is located on the fence beside the entrance to the large carpark on Red Island. There is a poster with instructions on its use beside it. To open the box you call 112 and will be given the code to unlock the case. The launch was attended by those who were instrumental in the project – Skerries Frosties, Skerries Tidy Towns, Skerries Community Association (SCA), Lydon, Fingal County Council and Mayor of Fingal, Tom O’Leary....SEE FULL STORY IN THE CURRENT EDITIONskerriesnews.ie/product/january23rd26/Never miss an issue, get an online subscription to Skerries News.
