New entrance layout sparks anger in Downside HeightsResidents of Downside Heights say new works at their estate entrance have turned a once-manageable junction into a daily hazard. From near-misses to confusion over the design, locals are now calling for urgent action – and for someone in authority to come out and see it for themselves…THE residents of Downside Heights are extremely upset about the works currently going on at the entrance to their estate. Carmel Martin called Skerries News on December 1 to highlight the problem. “It’s a carnage,” she says. “We have a situation where if a car stops on the hill to let a car out of the estate, if there is a car behind the stopped car they can’t see why it has stopped, so some people have tried to overtake. They could go right into the car exiting the estate. "My neighbour saw this happen the other day. A car tried to overtake the stopped car when she was pulling out and almost went into her." Skerries News arranged to drop up the following morning to meet Carmel on site. On arrival, there was a huge crowd of unhappy residents waiting at the entrance to express their dissatisfaction with the work.
