Sunshine Celebration for Cian Rooney-FitzgeraldA beach, a bonfire, rugby shirts, raised oars and hundreds of broken hearts marked Skerries’ farewell to Cian Rooney-Fitzgerald, remembered as kind, funny, brave and deeply loved..‘You must go on, I can't go on, I'll go on’ is the quote by Samuel Beckett that Linda Fitzgerald placed on her son Cian Rooney-Fitzgerald’s wicker coffin on Skerries' North Strand at the Sunshine Celebration of his life on Monday, May 25. It was a quote Cian loved, and lived by. He was just 17 and had bravely fought cancer for the past two years, believing in never giving up.This was one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking celebrations of a young life, taken far too soon, ever held in Skerries. A large rectangle of stones was laid out on the beach, with hearts and wild flowers in the corners, the rugby club logo on one side and Cian’s name in giant letters across the middle. Leaning against the lectern at the front was a huge poster of Cian’s face with his long red locks and signature baseball hat. Benches were laid out for the family and a bonfire had been built further along the beach. Hundreds gathered to celebrate Cian and support each other - on the sand, all along the bank, the wall and on Harbour Road.....Rest in peaceSEE CURRENT EDITIONskerriesnews.ie/product/may29th26/A huge thankyou to everyone who subscribes.
