THAT'S A WRAPTHE VERY last piece of the original bakery equipment in Skerries Mills has just been put out to pasture.A big old stainless steel mixer dating from 1933 came to a halt last week in the kitchens of the Water Mill Café. The trusted appliance, almost a century old, has been in almost daily use in the Mills café, mixing flour for their famous scones. Things were definitely built to last back then. Now a new mixer is due to be delivered and the old one has been consigned to the baking museum on the ground floor, joining the rest of the original appliances that once powered a busy working bakery.Skerries News dropped in to have a chat with head tour guide and manager Paddy McCormick, who has been working there for the past 26 years, ever since the mills first opened to the public in 1999.Paddy showed us into the room where all the old bakery equipment is now kept, and where the last mixer is lined up beside the previous two red mixers. With its large bowl and three different attachments.skerriesnews.ie/product/march6th26/Never miss an issue, get an online subscription to Skerries News. A huge thankyou to everyone who subscribes.
