UPDATE: Family consoled by the many dog owners using Larry's box of balls...In the last edition of Skerries News we had an article about a big basket of tennis balls on the South Strand in memory of Larry the dog. Larry was owned by the Kelly family – Orlagh and Ross, and their four year old twins Seán Óg and Orlagh Rose and sadly passed away on October 23.The sign on the basket read 'In Loving Memory of Larry July 2013 – October 2023. Larry loved nothing more than chasing a ball on the beach with his family. We love and miss him – so much. Please take five minutes and enjoy a game with your best friend in his memory. Wishing that we all could be ‘as happy as Larry’ forever… Rest in peace Lar, xxx.' Before the article was published the family had already refilled the basket three times as the tennis balls were in such demand. Since the article, it has been restocked continually, both by the family and by anonymous dog owners.Skerries News checked in with Orlagh again this week to see how they are all getting on."We’ve had loads of lovely feedback from the article," says Orla. "It was shared far and wide and in the family we’re just thrilled with the response. People are so incredibly kind. We are being sent photos of dogs at the basket. We actually got some money donated to buy more tennis balls to keep replenishing the basket – which we really didn’t expect. People are also tying poo bags to it, in case someone’s forgotten theirs so people can feel free to take one.” READ FULL STORY IN THE CURRENT EDITIONskerriesnews.ie/product/november21st25/Never miss an issue, get an online subscription to Skerries News.
